That's a 1979 Ford Country Squire |

You can distinctively see the chrome strip running down the center of the grill. So it's a Mercury Colony Park. |

I don't know, I'm still leaning towards Country Squire. The grille on the '79-'82 (at least during some point in those years) LTD Country Squire had a single chrome strip in the middle (see here), while the Colony Park had about half a dozen vertical chrome strips. Also, this appears to have turn signals under the headlights, something the Colony Park never had. |

I seriously agree it's a Ford Country Squire |

Im still convinced its a Mercury, grill and wheels say Colony Park to me, IMHO |

It's pretty obvious it's a Ford: Solid Orange side reflectors, Turn signals under headlights, darkened grille. -- Last edit: 2006-12-10 22:09:23 |

But is that the right color scheme for a Ford, though? It just looks like a Mercury to me... |

Well, put it this way: Ford, Mercury, basically use the same colors, wheels, trim. |

If it was a Mercury, it'd have vents on the fenders. That's a Country Squire. -- Last edit: 2006-12-11 06:05:42 |

its a squire, the colony park had different woodgrain and a chrome strip on top of said woodgrain. oh and FWIW the colony park lost the vents in 1981... but it's definatly a ford, as the colony park had darker woodgrain 1980 ![]() 1981 ![]() and here's a 1983 squire, as you can see the woodgrain is lighter and has a wood trim around it, vs the chrome trim on the colony park... so the original pic posted is of a squire ![]() -- Last edit: 2008-04-13 16:12:10 (antp) |

That is DEFINITELY an LTD Country Squire and NOT a Marquis/Grand Marquis Colony Park, On the Marquis and Colony Park, There are vents in the front fenders (These vents were used until 1987), And the parking/turn signal/cornering lights are horizontal and wider and are somewhat similar in appearance to the Cadillac De Ville and Fleetwood models of the late '70s, Also, The regular Marquis wagons (Without the woodgrain trim) and the Colony Park from 1979 to 1991 has wraparound taillights whereas The regular LTD wagons and the Country Squires of those years didn't, But they did have the same engine which was the 302 Windsor V8, First with a 2 barrel Holley carb I think and then later on with electronic fuel injection and Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection, The 351 Windsor V8 with the Variable Venturi Carb was offered in these wagons from I think '79 to either '81 or '82 after which it was only offered for Police use, I think these wagons might've also been available with the 2 barrel 255 V8 which was a de-bored 302 Windsor that was EXTREMELY GUTLESS in performance!!! |

So were the Merc wheels available on the Ford from the factory or has the " character " driving this wagon installed them at some point pryor to us seeing it in this scene? |

Apparently, this, like the Torino in The French Connection, was completely accidental. |
