Well this is the Typ 1 1600, not the common Typ 3 1600 which I feel you are thinking of.... ![]() It was, according to the site you refer to, built from leftover parts from the former 1300 with Superbug L powerplant - among other. Produced if I have read correctly from March to July 1976. The correct name should be VW 1600 Beetle - for the first time was 'Beetle' used in marketing. The site has been a valuable source of information so far. |

Tore-40 is right. 1976 The Melbourne factory is now owned by Nissan, but VW assembly continues under Japanese control. This is the last year for the VW Beetle in Australia. The ‘1600 Beetle’ debuts, basically an updated 1300 ‘old body’ Beetle from the previous year, fitted with leftover mechanical parts from the Superbug. -- Last edit: 2014-03-10 16:27:51 |
