Curiously, this one has banana vent as shown at the last thumbnail provided by rockstarnorth225

Yes. When the 1300 was withdrawn the 1200 got some more items of 'luxury'. UK 1975 is shown without the vents (but ask @ingo about the accuracy of VW brochures) while 1976 and 1977 have gained the flow-through vents, only 1200 available by then - and the 1303 cabriolet, of course. Even the Mexican made 1200 had them by then (1978 and 1980 brochures) but they were later omitted.

Back to this car: The larger rear window (this is one) didn't appear om Mexican models until 1985 (Wikipedia) and they had then already lost the engine vents (they reappeared with the injection engine but here we see a twin exhaust system). Export to Europe also ended by then. Did Hong Kong even import cars from Mexico?

Pretty sure this is a 1976-78 (until January 1978) 1200 made in DE

Edit: 1200 S for the basic trim, and with cooling vents for the larger engine

@dsl, any info on your side?

Not sure it's particularly helpful, but UK info seems to be: 1200 - Sept 75 revision brought the through-flow ventilation (so banana vents) with rename from plain 1200 to 1200 L which continued to Nov 77. 1300 and 1303 were dropped at same time, leaving 1200 L as our only Beetle after 1303 S saloon and convertible had finished in Oct 74 (although 1303 LS Convertible reappeared Oct 76 until Feb 79).

So if HK followed UK, I'd agree 1976 1200, but please don't confuse me with someone who knows what they're talking about!

Sorry for the mistake! ;)

So apart from this not being an 'L', info above seems to have been verified by someone who doesn't know. :p
