Faudrait voir l'arrière mais c'est possible : l'Elan n'a pas l'air aussi "plate" |

It's definitely a Europa, not an Elan. Or a "Europe". ![]() |

I thought that "Europe" was only sold in France, with a Renault engine or something like that? -- Last edit: 2005-10-19 16:52:45 |

The first cars went to France, later to the rest of continental Europe. A right-hand drive version became available in the UK later. This is the Lotus Europa S1 [Type 46] (1966-68). This version was never sold in the USA, but the S2 version [Type 54] from 1968, and in larger numbers the Type 65 (1969) and Type 74 (1971). The name actually is 'Europa'. There might have been a few cars labled as 'Europe', but so far I have no proof. The engine is a tuned Renault 16 engine. Only the types 47 and 74 used a Lotus/Ford/Cosworth twin cam engine. |

It is a S2, the S1 had one piece side windows that do not wind down. You can see the metal divider between the front vent window and the rear section in the left door. And the S1 did not have chrome trim around the windows. I have to admit that the car in the pic doesn't have the turn signals between the headlights, but that could be modified, as are the fog lights and turn signals under the bumpers. That, and the S1 has only one wiper ;-) -- Last edit: 2010-10-03 22:27:37 |
