This getting ridiculous. How many more Crown Vics have gotta die for movies? |

What's this thing... a modification to help flip the car over?![]() |

Yes. Guess they use a pneumatic cylinder in order to actuate it fast enough, coupled to a nitrogen pressure tank. |

@AdamStryker: how many are left? ![]() |

A lot but that's beside the point. Enough is enough, if I didn't know any better I would swear that these movies nowadays are nothing but a conspiracy to get these cars off the road... |

There are a lot still on the road. If these aren't used in movies, what will happen to these? They will just end in junkyards... |

People buy them. And I would rather see them in Junk yard giving there parts to the enthusiast of these cars. If it wasn't for government regulations these cars would still be made, they are completely destroying the last of the full size body on frame RWD sedans. You know they wont last forever. |

There's no conspiracy. They always destroy Crown Victorias in movies because of the fact that these have been America's main police cars since 1998. They can't exactly use Toyotas or Hondas as police car stand ins during action sequences, now can they? In a few years you'll be seeing Chargers, Caprice PPVs, Impalas, and Ford Police Interceptors (Tauruses) destroyed as much as the CV is now. |

@Adam Stryker: 'If it wasn't for government regulations these cars would still be made': Is that the only reason? Ford could have easily worked on a new, more eco-friendly engine for the Crown Victoria and its' Panther counterparts. Ford just did not want to. Instead, they would rather discontinue these cars - and, therefore, let go of their leading position - of their products being the cars of choice among taxicab companies, law enforcement agencies and limousine services. Would police women and men rather use a RWD Dodge Charger or switch to a FWD Ford Taurus? Producing the Taurus as FWD is another questionable decision by Ford, considering that police officers are used to driving RWD patrol cars since a lot of years. Is the MKT Town Car an adequate replacement for the original Town Car (as in, will customers buy it for their limousine services)? Time will show. But currently it does not quite look that way. The Panther cars are my favourite cars. Sleek, elegant design + durability, a long operational life and easy to maintain. rjluna2 is right, too: Hollywood could care less about the cars they use. A 2000 Ford CVPI does not stretch the budget too much, considering it is 13 years old in 2013. Or, maybe anyone remembers the Mercedes destroyed in The Hangover? That is Hollywood. Unfortunate for cars enthusiasts, though. -- Last edit: 2013-03-31 21:15:42 |
