Right, a complicated naming problem solved. Detail of its interesting badge on the radiator > Could it be the only Nuffield badged car ? |

AFAIK yes, but there was a range of agricultural tractors sold under that name. |

The total production of the vehicle, Mks 1 to 3 was 1926. Roughly half were built at Ward End, the remainder being built at Adderley Park. The Ward End production might account for the inaccurate Wolseley naming. Jon Pressnell says “manufacture went ahead on the basis that Nuffield would take up Beardmore’s allocation of steel, in exchange for which Beardmore’s would sell and service the Oxford cab” Further “it was decided to produce the remaining sanction mostly as hire cars and then get out of the taxi market as soon as the agreement with Beardmore’s had run its course, which would be at the end of 1953.” Pressnell then debunks the idea that the formation of BMC allowed Austin to stop Nuffield from manufacturing taxis in favour of the FX3. |
