The 5.4 liter Triton V-8 engine was updated with variable valve timing, and a new four-speed 4R75E automatic gearbox was introduced with artificially intelligent (A.I.) shift logic. The 4.6 liter V-8 engine was discontinued from the Expedition lineup, but continued to be offered on other Ford vehicles.
