1972 (Mustang in script letters on deck lid, block letters for 1971) This is most likely the 1972 Mustang Sprint, like this one. http://www.1972mustangsprint.com/ -- Last edit: 2012-09-28 09:52:09 |

Not a Sprint. |

I'd say it's just a plain '72 with added stripes and a Mach 1 grille. |

That trunk looks like a replacement - I'm not sure it's even safe to say it's a '72. Might even be a '71. -Kurt |

The stunt double is on eBay right now:![]() Seller comments: This is the ORIGINAL STAR CAR from the movie 'Shelter', which was filmed in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1998. The pictures shown are with Cody G. Carson and his grandson posing with the car for me. Cody G. Carson was the person responsible for acquiring the vehicles for the film. He also played the role of Dewayne, one of the gunmen, in the film. The cars for the film were a 1972 Ford Mustang "Sprint" model which was his personal car, then a second one (THIS CAR) was purchased for the movie, and painted to match the "Sprint" car. This car was purchased from Matthews Mustangs located in Rose Bud, Arkansas, and did not have motor and transmission which was not necassary since it was only needed for the still scenes. The car then was taken and had a "quick" paint job on it to match the "Sprint" car and even had the interior spray-painted to match the Sprint car. REMEMBER, If you did not see the car driving.....it was this car that was being used. Even the scene at the end of the movie with the guy and girl being filmed in the car, It was this car that was being trailered. As stated in the story telling about the movie, which a link has been provided for you to go to and read all about the cars and the movie. THIS CAR NOW IS IN ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION AFTER BEING USED FOR THE MOVIE AND SHOWS THE MARKINGS IN THE SEAT BACK STATING "SHELTER MOVIE CAR" AND APPEARS THAT SOMEONE HAD ALREADY TAKEN OUT THE ONE FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT AS SHOWN IN PICS...... Now about the car- This is an original 05 body code MACH 1 and is a 1971 model with the "F" engine code which is the 302 and had ( I Think) a 3 speed transmission and it was originally green in color, tag is gone from door so don't know specifics as far as transmission, rear end or the color code.....These pictures were taken last year and paint is now peeling and flaking on this car-it will need total restoration, all floor pans and the cross member has rust in it but a good one comes with the car. Body is straight but will need the lower rear quarter patch panels as most of these cars do If you have any other questions you may call me at ***-***-**** Thanks Steve -- Last edit: 2012-11-04 16:57:10 |

Deck lid was replaced from a salvage car after I backed into a telephone pole (long story and not going there ). Car had been repainted years before I bought it, but stripes had been repainted in a dark navy blue that was flacking off so I repainted it with Regal blue :I don't like the light blue used on the Sprint and didn't care about matching the factory color. I was getting the car ready for a new paint job when I met the movie company. Everyone liked the "road warrior " battle scarred look with the primer and dents for thepart that the car was going to play. BTW, I first stated that the stunt double was a 72 fastback because that is what the salvage yard said when we bought it. And since it's purpose was to be thrown off a bridge, we never looked at the VIN. After it was reported crushed by the guy who had stolen it, I didn't report it, because I didn't know the VIN and had no proof. It changed hands a few times and eventually ended up with a title as a 71 Mach 1 and was owned by a guy named Steve. He had no idea that the car had been stolen and I had no proof of ownership, so I let things remain as is and even took pictures with him when he had it for sale. So it may actually be a 71 Mach 1. Who knows? But the driver is for sure an original 82 Sprint. I hope that helps. -Cody |
