I hate what they did to this car...it was in great shape! The interior lights even still worked. |

I remember they rigged this to a remote control. By testing it, Adam rode in the backseat while Jamie manuevered it with the remote. I don't know if Jamie did it on purpose, but it ended up crashing through a gate! Adam freaked out, but was unharmed. ![]() |

Well, they did it in the name of science. ![]() |

Was it restored or not? |

I just watched this on television. Why, oh why did they have to do it ? ![]() It's a 40-years old car, they don't make these anymore ! ![]() |

Additional pics-![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It only suffered minor damgages. Broken drive shaft, ripped brake line and a dent on the hood. The engine was still running fine. So, they didn't really destroy the car... |

what did they want to prove? |
◊ 2007-03-09 22:34 |
They wanted to see if the car would leap in the air if the drive shaft came loose from under the car and struck a big pothole. After dozens of tries, they finally caught the rod into the pothole. The back end went up about a foot and half. It didn't cause any serious damage to the car, and it could easily be repaired. They had to use a '67 Fury because that was the same car featured in the myth they were testing. |

i see, thanks ![]() |

I think that the myth was that if the drive shaft broke and went into a pothole it would flip the car over onto its top. Myth was proved false. |

They used it again in a later myth and crash it into a concrete barrier and absolutely totalled it ![]() -- Last edit: 2007-03-10 02:21:08 |

If you're mad about classics being destroyed, then check out this website about a few demo derby drivers in the UK! There are A LOT of American cars on there, some cars are from the 1920s ![]() ![]() -people who enjoy wrecking half century old cars,or older are parasites! These cars will NEVER come back! ![]() Also,in American demo derbies, the cars can't be older than 1950 (and I think it should be lowered a couple decades) -- Last edit: 2007-07-25 00:51:45 |

While I like the show, I think it is a crime for what they are doing to these classics. |

It is a shame... they are millions of cars 10/15 year olds running for a couple hundred bucks they could destroy... I like the younger crowd there, but I don't like the old moustaches.. |

I'll never watch MythBusters again after seeing them wreck that car. |

Would love to see boycotts arranged against attending movies where collector cars are gratuitously destroyed but it will never happen. Too many people love it and Hollywood feeds on that. (Or maybe it's the other way around.) |

Curiously, nobody identify as Fury III ![]() |

Just came across this. It makes me want to puke. They should have "borrowed" the car belonging to the show's producer and done the same thing to it. |

"There's a circle of Hell reserved for those who destroy classic cars." |
◊ 2013-05-06 12:05 |
At least it was a 4 door but it was still way to nice to destroy it in the way they did. |
◊ 2024-11-08 17:02 |
Logically, you'd think it would be easier and cheaper to destroy something easily found cheap, like say a 15 year old Camry. If you don't want to pay the "Toyota Tax" then maybe a Ford Taurus or something like that of the same vintage. Classic cars in good shape typically aren't easy to find and not cheap, so it strikes me as odd to go out of your way by spending more time to find something like this just to destroy it and pay more as well. If there's any consolation, in the future we'll probably be able to 3d print classic cars easily, or at least the parts to restore them if not entire cars. |

Though remember, this was 20 years ago, and these big American boats of the 1960s and 70s still go for affordable prices purely because they do not lust after; they're not "muscle" (A modern four-banger will do laps around the biggest block V8s of the time), and everyone wants the slick "performance" cars. Personally, I like the boats more, but that's because I prefer Comfort over some numbers you will never get the full use of |
