This car would have been newish at the time. Looks to be a high-spec 825 Sterling with full leather interior (Same colour as my Rover Sterling's interior) its also an early car going by the interior door handles which were quite large for a couple of years. So a 1986+ car.

Thanks for putting these up, I've seen this episode of Bergerac a few times, pity we didnt get to see a full profile of the car.

My mother drove a new ‘88 Sterling 825SL for ten years. Same colors; red/grey exterior, tan leather interior. Had every option as far as I know, except the power reclining rear seat. I only really know of the US-spec Sterlings that we got from 1987 to 1992; 825S/825SL, then 827SL/827SLi. I can tell the 87’s from the 1988’s if I could see the power seat buttons on the center console. The ‘87 has little triangle shaped buttons all around a diagram of a seat on each side of the center console, whereas the ‘88 has two square buttons, each with a diagram of the seat, both visually divided into four squares with each of the total squares responsible for a single movement of either the seat back or the bottom cushion when one of the corners is toggled/pressed. It kinda resembles the switchgear for the power seats in the later BMW e28 models, but on those, the individual seat movements have individual separate buttons; 8 total, with 4 buttons grouped together in two squares. Anyway, with these photos, my guess is like Mr Chopsticks in that the car appears to be early model before the door card and interior chrome handles were changed. Definitely higher trim level, however this particular car does not have the automatic sliding shoulder belt, which my mother’s car had. Maybe that option and the other one having to do with the optional power reclining rear seat were separate options aside from the trim lines available; (S vs SL). The S had different alloy wheels with square or maybe slightly rectangular holes all around the rim, cloth interior, no trip computer, could be had with a manual transmission, and I think the stereo was more basic.
