Location = IRL = Opel Omega GM uses the Opel name in the Republic of Ireland. I presume that this is to avoid any anti-British sentiment. |

Vauxhalls and Opels used to be sold here alongside each other, but they stopped this as they slowly became mostly identical models. I assume people thought Opel = German = Better than British cars , so they became the more preferred here. |

no i think we hade a choice if people wanted opels or vauxhalls so the people of ireland chose opels and if some people still wanted vauxhalls they could go to the north of ireland and buy one |

Note: The reg sticker in the windshield makes me think of NYC style stickers. |

Well, we have a plenty of different windshield-stickers in Europe. British MOT-stickers, Dutch registration stickers (resp.paper-document in a sticker-etui), Italian tax-stickers, German "enviromental-zone"-stickers, Swiss Autobahn-toll-stickers, Czech Autobahn-toll-stickers, Austrian Autobahn-toll-stickers, etc.pp |

They're not stickers, they're tax and insurance discs - the insurance disc is square but we still call it a disc ![]() They are pieces of non-adhesive paper held in plastic holders on the front windscreen (you often get disc holders for free with car insurance, from dealers, or with a new windscreen) Since 2000 a third disc has to be displayed - the NCT (National Car Test) disc (again square )They're much the same as tax discs in the UK, except they just have tax discs, no insurance or anything else. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_tax_in_the_Republic_of_Ireland |
