We may need a black, white and red flag here. :miam:

Why? After all it's the always same country, nothing changes...

I'm sorry for the nasty joke, but I really think that doesn't matter at all: it's always Germany, like South Africa pre and post 1994 or the Kingdom/Republic of Italy, and differently from Soviet Union/Russia and Jugoslavia/Serbia.

No, it is not the same country. As ingo pointed out somewhere else on this site, the current German flag was forbidden back then, the political and administrative structures were totally different between 1933 and 1945, and the outline of Germany was also different, since some eastern territories (East Prussia, Silesia etc.) were lost after the war. In fact, with the creation of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949, a totally different country was formed, just like when the Russian Federation was formed -> we have different flags there, too.
We have flags not only for the Soviet Union, but also for East Germany, Austria-Hungary and Macedonia, but we need some more former flags, including:

Rhodesia -> everything made in Zimbabwe between 1965 - 1980
Nazi Germany -> everything made in Germany from 1933 - 1945
German Empire -> everything German made until 1932
British Kenya -> everything built in Kenya before their independance
British Hong Kong -> the current flag only covers Hong Kong SAR under PRC administration
and many more...

And, we must change the current flag designated for Libya: After the revolution in 2011, they got a new flag, not the all-green one anymore!!

I tend to agree with you there, robi.

I added some like USSR & DDR because we had a lot of cars from there. But handling manually all the slight changes in countries names or flags would be too much.
So for the v3 of the site we'll manage flags depending on the car year (and at the same time we merged merged the countries lists, as the "made for" list is a mess compared to the "origin" & "made in" list), we'll easily be able to add these special cases then.

@robi: we had this discussion here: /vehicle.php?id=198397 - for that car someone specially created the flag of the pre-1918 "Austria-Hungary"!

P.S.With the German Empire you are wrong! There we have to separate between
a) pre-3.7.1919
b) 14.8.1919-11.3.1933
c) 12.3.1933-15.9.1935 (black-white-red and the swastica side-by-side)
d) 15.9.1935-8.5.1945
e) 9.5.1945-12.11.1946 (none)
f) 12.11.1946-23.5.1949 (alternativetely: Link to "de.wikipedia.org" )
e) after the 23.5.1949 until the 1.10.1959 the DDR-orgin cars, as the DDR-flag was introduced then. Until then they had also the black-red-gold flag.
(btw: the "DDR"-nationality-sign was introduced for the 1.1.1974, until then they used the "D" parallel)

That would be too complicated but this one [Image: de19331945.png ] has been ready for a long time. /vehicle_406430-Horch-901.html

That's nice. As the exact definition would be too complcated for civil cars (think about the DKW F8 and the Opel Blitz for example), I suggest, that we put the swastica-flag at all vehicles, which were constructed specifically for military usage in the WWII.

I would say anything originating in Nazi Germany 1933-45, vehicles for civilian use certainly included. Hitler's national-socialist state was about mobilizing the ordinary citizen too, as you said on the Horch page. Those few debatable cars could be adjusted case by case.

Well, the question, which car is debatable, is debatable. If we would act that picky, as we did several times in the past (the question, what counts: chassis? design? oily bits? assembling?), there would be good reasons, to place the swastica-flag here, too: /vehicles_make-Wartburg_model-1.html - because chassis and frame are based on the 1941 DKW Reichsklasse-prototype.

"Based on" but a different car. On the VAZ 2101 we don't put an Italian flag for its Fiat origin either.
It will be fun assigning a swastika or not.

The Tuvalu flag is still not the one used since April 1997...

There is no car or user from Tuvalu anyway (just one that found the flag nice)
