This of course is the main charracters car the wraith. It is a Mopar M4S concept car. It uses a tube monochoc chassis with a kevlar body produced by PPG. The car is a pearl charcoal grey also provided by PPG. It uses a 2.2 turbo with a Cosworth head and Bosche turbos which sat behind the driver. In the one shot of the engine in the movie it has been disguised and looks nothing like the real engine. This very car was also used as the PPG Indy Pace Car. Requirments for a car to make it as an Indy Pace car, it must be able to maintain 100 mph to pace the feild and it must be able to accelerate to 180 to out run the cars and get into the pit lanes as the race restarts. IT must also have enough brakes to stop before the end of pit road as well. |

The following are various shots i've aquired over the years. I've also seen the original prop car being rebuilt, i have various photos of it as it's gone through restoration. You can find more information about it at www.thewraithcar.com The last two photos were taken by cast/staff while on the set of the film. -- Last edit: 2009-10-28 21:19:41 |

"1981 Dodge M4S: Conceived as a showcase for Dodge’s future tech, the M4S (‘Midengine, 4-cylinder, Sports’) was designed in-house by Bob Ackerman, with its construction farmed out to a number of specialists. With a drag coefficient of just 0.236Cd, and powered by a relatively small, but potent, 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine, twin-turbocharged to produce a healthy 440bhp, the M4S was tested to a top speed of 194.8mph, and could accelerate from 0-60mph in 4.1 secs. Its profile was raised with an appearance in the 1986 film, The Wraith, as well as a starring role as the Indianapolis 500 pace car in the mid-80s." |
