It really was blown away? I think H2 deserve it much more than H3.

I prefer that they spend their money in blowing one H3 rather than numerous old cars which are sometimes worth keeping.

It´s sad that it was blown away, as it seems that the Hummer was in quite good condition.

But the explosion was great!

Compared with the new price, they aren't really high-priced any more. Link to "suchen.mobile.de"
And you shouldn't forget the fact, that a used Hummer has a similar destiny as a used Stretch-Limo: noone wants them. So for German used car-dealers a Hummer is horror-car, disposable only for the export to Near and Middle East, sometimes to Russia or the Caucasus.
Except a few bling-bling idiots, tasteless new-rich upcomers or red-light-fellows with an immigration background, in Germany the Hummer is a total hate-car. Caused mainly by the worst reputation of the typical owner-clientele.

Did a quick search and in the UK (although this is South Africa) you can get a 5 year old used H3 for about £14K. Although I don't think many of these were sold in the UK (so that might help it's used value), they'll probably be somewhat cheaper in the US.

Thing is Ingo, I don't think these have gone out of fashion yet, I think they'd still be sellable to some people as a novelty buy.

ingo wrote a used Hummer has a similar destiny as a used Stretch-Limo: noone wants them.

People who want to start their own limo businesses do, you still see 10-15 year old Lincoln stretch limos around in England (on their way to some stupid nightclub in town. The other day I saw a pink one (quite a few are pink) waiting to turn into the road I was coming out of, I gave him plenty of room, I felt sympathy for him having to manoeuvre that thing around my small town.

Hammond goes on about it being a big tough car but it's just the H3, which is a scaled-down version of the H2 and not all that big for an SUV (although it's probably quite wide)

Rather "a very few people" than "some people". Do you have noticed, that there were some reasons, why this brand is collapsed, resp.was cancelled by GM?

@ingo: I like the Hummer and other US-Cars. And there are some people in Germany who like them, too. Maybe you have heard of "Geiger Cars". Karl Geiger sells US-Cars in Munich and he is very successful. Last week I was in Munich and there was a pimped Hummer H2 SUT in front of our car. We had to stop at an intersection. So I openend the window and listened to the sound of this phenomenal car. And then he put the pedal to the metal and the rumbling of the engine was absolutely fantastic.

@Sandie: Great sound and great cars. I like TVR´s, too.

@Nightrider: The Hummer I´ve seen wasn´t extremely pimped. It was black with tinted rear lights and it had nice alloy wheels.

Ingo DE

2011-06-29 21:16

It's a pimp's car anyways, even in "basic" trim line. The technic is just as primitive as the owners, only an oversized cast iron chunk and ancient US-truck-technology.

@m.pfaffeder: I shift your bloopers about image, reputation and respect about cars and especially the typical owners on your juvenile greeness. Hopefully you'll get a feeling for gracious sophistication sometimes.
With a higher age, some personal preferences will becoming embarassing in the eyes of the others and will damage your own reputation... ;)

I think I take offense to this statement.

Ingo DE

Sorry, but the engine of the Hummer is not High Tech.

And about the Hummer-owners, maybe in America it's different, but in Europe, especially Germany, their reputation IS worst, definetely. It IS a pimp's car. It IS a car for people with a bit money, but absolutely no bearable social background, exclusively low educated upstarters.

Ingo DE

2011-06-29 21:37

P.S. @tonkatracker: the points "cast iron chunk" and "ancient US truck technology" goes, here in Germany, for ALL US-made Pick Up's, and the very most US-Vans and US-SUV's too. Sorry, it's not mine opinion, it's absolute common popular belief, also in the automotive medias and -economy-branches.

No worries ingo you couldn't really offend me even if you tried ;) I have very thick skin. As for Hummers I seriously don't know anyone who likes them, other than the Hummer owners themselves. If I wanted a Tahoe I would buy a Tahoe not an H2 (or an Escalade) same with the H3 (I would buy an Envoy). As for the "ancient US truck technology" That is what is preferred here in the US as a matter of fact My Jeep Liberty (Cherokee to you) is looked down on because it is uni-body and not body-on-frame like most US Trucks/SUVs.

m.pfaffeneder DE

2011-06-29 22:07

@ingo: I don´t want to own a Hummer and I don´t like Hummer-owners as well and to drive a Hummer is completely nonsense. But it´s a car from another planet and that makes it special. Unfortunately there are/were so many pimps who destroyed the image of the Hummer, as it was actually drafted for military actions. I like the Hummer, because of it´s sound, offroad abilities and it´s design. And this opinion has absolutely nothing to do with my juvenile greeness.

PS: My name ... :D

Primitive it may be, but the H3 (and H2) still had all the necessary core off road hardware, in addition to a laundry-list of off road features. And due to its smaller size, it can go places the H2 cannot.

Not liking a vehicle because of its owners, or calling it derogatory names because of its owners is in a word, silly. The vehicle itself cannot help 80 to 90 percent of its buyers were, well, you know.

I blame the owners and GM, not the car. GM tried to mass market a vehicle which, at best, filled only a small niche market. Not everyone needs an off road vehicle. Most people who did purchase them, purchased them for all the wrong reasons, and either never took them off road or customized them in some way.

The H3 was a great vehicle, and so was the H2. The fact that they blew one up doesn’t bother me, its not the first vehicle they have destroyed, and it won’t be the last.

Neptune wrote Not liking a vehicle because of its owners, or calling it derogatory names because of its owners is in a word, silly.

But not uncommon. In Germany it became less extreme, but for many years, from WWII until the early 80ies, it was absolutely common to classify the reputation of a person by his car. And owners of specific brands, even specific models, had own reputations, resp. were afflicted with specific prejudices.

In my job, in an insurance, I do that many times per days with our customers. Not theirs car (not my business), but familyname, given name, accent/dialect, residence (location, postcode, also size and value), insurance sum and other details, are aspects of the allocation.

I really don't think, that they expect it to be hit on offroaders market. I'm sure that H2 was a pimp car by design.

I would imagine the expense of this car was part or fully met by the Marauder's makers - after all, they got a free 15-minute ad on a globally-accessible TV show.
