Packard 22nd series model 2233 Custom Eight Victoria Convertible with the 356 cubic inch straight eight developing 160 horsepower of 1948. |

Jeez...eight cylinders on that big, heavy car, and all it gets is 160 hp? Beautiful car, though... |

Back then the compression ratio was low, like 7.0 to 1 thats why the horsepower was lower. Very nice car for sure. |

356 cubic inches equals 5.9 liters? |

Can anyone tell me who is the owner of this car? My brother and I have a bet. He INSISTS that our father used to own that car. |

I saw that too, via Hemmings. I've updated the year on its two other appearances. But the chassis code should probably be updated too. |

Know as the "Bathtub" Packard, for obvious reasons. The big straight eight wasn't a horsepower monster, but had exceptional tourqe. It was also Packard's downfall. They didn't develop a OHV V-8, because this eight was proven. They didn't have to money to develop a whole new engine They waited until 55. They hoped Studebaker would have the cash to invest in new motor tooling, hence the merger. But in the end, it took to long, they were supplanted by Lincoln, Imperial and Cadillac. -- Last edit: 2022-07-20 04:01:30 |
