1967 Austin Mini Cooper S Mk1 (which should be the description as well for the 3 main chase cars), despite the 1968 G plate. This looks genuine Cooper S (grille, bonnet badge, chrome lower side trim). Also quote "The only Coopers used other than those in the main chase sequence were, a red Austin Cooper S, registration OEG103G and a blue Austin Cooper S, registration WGH415G. These were used early on in the film, as the gang practice jumping the Coopers off a ramp." from http://www.theitalianjobminicoopers.co.uk/index-5.html . However this quote may not be totally reliable because of the reference to OEG 103G as a Cooper S, which palacebear's comment convincingly contradicts (though there may be 2 red Minis involved in the different pictures - one with a rollcage, one without in the crash with the blue one). -- Last edit: 2010-12-18 19:05:01 |

So in the end it is the same as the other Minis? So no need of a separate page? |

In terms of the film, probably justifies its own page as only used in English-based testing before the main event. As for the car it has its own story/folklore, which with some ambiguity about the red one coming in alongside, is perhaps also worth keeping separate. |

I'm surprised they used mini's for the main car.. if it's THE Italian job... why not use the FIAT??? |

Because the film story it's set in Italy with British characters? |

True but given that every other car in the movie is a Fiat 500, it would've been impossible to differentiate the Fiats used in the heists from those being driven by innocent motorists. |
