Hmm, the back badges are missing, even the holes of it, so you cannot identify, if it's pre 1985 or a later one. It doesn't look pimped, so probably it got a new back panel after a crash. In the 80ies it was not possible, to order cars at VW without badges on the back, not like at Mercedes Benz or BMW, which had offered that since the late 60ies. |

Maybe a gray import? Here in Japan I see old gray import cars having much newer registration years as that would be the year they were brought over from abroad |
