Hi, Looks like a late fourties early fifties Ford Thames van. Perhaps a Fordson of same vintage. Not sure of differences. Regards Vintman |

It is an E83W 10cwt van. There is no clue in the pictures as to whether it was badged as a Fordson, or as a Thames since the only easily visible check is the badging on the side of the engine cover or at the top of the radiator, neither of which is visible. The van was introduced in March 1938 and discontinued in September 1957. -- Last edit: 2009-11-23 14:54:46 |

Other E83Ws are listed as Fordson Thames or Fordson 10cwt Van or Fordson Thames 10cwt Van... -- Last edit: 2009-11-23 15:20:38 |

This could well be a later Fordson Thames van, I believe the Thames name was added to Fordson post-WWII not certain about the actual date, about 1949? Later the Thames name became the brand without Fordson in the early 1950s. So some name confirmation and renaming on IMCDb may be necessary? Probably... According to my source book, "Ford Popular and the small sidevalves" by Dave Turner 1984 - "Attempts were made to freshen up the appearance and character of the E83W model in 1948....in the end, only a "Ford Product" badge was added to the bonnet sides at the same time as there was a change in grille badge from "Fordson" to "Thames"." All we can say for certain about the van in the pictures is that it has post-war shaped rear wing pressings, and is therefore post 1946. -- Last edit: 2009-11-23 19:38:40 |

Fordson 1938-1950 Thames after 1951 after the Fordson name was dropped. Either at the same time or probably within a year the small side-flash badge was added. (Some early 'Thames' advertising shows the bonnet without the side-flash.) |
