I know it was filmed there, but I think it takes place in the US, so the car is not necessarily a mistake, it could have just been a Canadian who moved from Canada to the USA and took his car with him.

The scene is said to be "30 years ago" in the movie, so presumably late-1970s. The bus is still an anachronism, albeit a very minor one.
