Square brackets are used for the chassis or design code. This is ususally a code used inside a company and not in the public. It is quite useful to group similar vehicles as model names are often inherited over generations (e.g. 'Golf', 'Escort', 'Carina'). In this case it is even more useful as this car was sold with slight variations under the brand name 'Austin', 'Morris', 'MG', 'Riley', 'Vanden Plas', and 'Wolseley', plus some coachbuilt versions by 'Crayford' and 'Jensen', plus the Italian made 'Innocenti'. 'ADO' is an initialism for 'Austin Drawing Office' (in later years sometimes called 'Austin Design Office') and was used from 1956 until 1975 with numbers ranging from 6 to 99 (not all were used). -- Last edit: 2006-02-27 10:05:28 |

I agree. But the year should be 1962. -- Last edit: 2006-03-28 21:41:47 |
