Looks like a Commercial Package police model. As I believe it wasn't known as an SSV yet, right Neptune? |

Yes, a stripped down, bare bones fleet 2000 Ford Expedition. First gen. fleet models are becoming quite rare, but some are still seeing active service. I ran across this one that was a surplus USDA Forestry Service vehicle, but surprisingly in good condition. http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucdsclnk?sl=71QSCI09133013# These would make an excellent off-road vehicle that you could bash around and not care if you gouged a hole in the side. But sometimes its hard to find them. |

Ahh, I struck gold! I found documentation giving the specific name of the commercial package. My previous sources were using commercial package as a generic term. The first generation Expedition still was not called SSV exactly, but it was close. "17K Fleet Special Service Package" That is the name of the elusive package. I also learned that they were based off the XLT trim level, but the package deletes almost all of the XLT’s features including the XLT trim level name off of the front fenders and liftgate. Also available to complement the Fleet Special Service Package was a "High Altitude Principle Use Package". The Order code for the fleet package was (17K) Since then the order code 17K has been assigned to the King Ranch trim level (I think) and a new order code has been assigned to the now known SSV versions. -- Last edit: 2009-03-25 21:49:15 |

Excellent find! Do you know what the "17K" stands for? -- Last edit: 2009-03-25 23:23:19 |

It’s the order code for the package. Why they assigned that particular code to the package? I have no clue. |
