These are very interesting picture.
It's too short for Harley and drive chain exists at right side (Harley has chain at left side).
We'll search what is based on :D

Reinvestigating is started once agein :D

I have to apologize it's actually Harley-Davidson.
At first glance, it seems too short for me. But checking further it's Harley engine.

I'd overlooked one thing, The man in the picture is taller! (must not be based on my height :D )

Thanks :)
By the way, for all these models with a name in few letters (XLCH) + a more pretty name (Sport Ster), which one should be written first? Like you write it or with the letter as chassis code or extra info?

Name of Harley is confusing. Now they uses two ways.
1. letter + name =XL883L Sportster
2. simple-name =883Low
Both name are used same model.

Model name points one model, but 'Pretty name' tend to contains many models.
For example, 'Electra Glide' series contains 8 models in 1984.
(FLH/FLH80/FLHT/FLHTC/FLHTP/FLHTP-POLICE/FLHT-Shrine/FLHX)...it's nightmare :)
And 'Pretty name' sometimes changes.
FL model was named 'Hydra Glide' till 1957, and suddenly changed to 'Duo Glide' on 1958...it's nightmare :)

So I think 'letter + name' is good for database.
If the name is too long, we'll search better ways.

It is not too long, but to use the same logic as the other vehicles listed we could put the "code name" as chassis code, like we put the W-code and E-code for Mercedes and BMW, if you see what I mean.
I guess that this code with few letters was not used commercially; the bike was sold as "Electra Glide" only I suppose?

W-code and E-code are internal code. It's not used sales-broche.
Harley's 'letter + name' is official name. It's used on sales-broche.

Harley's 'letter' are equivalent to (250S/250SE/300SE/280S/280SE/280SE3.5/280SE4.5) of Mercedes :)

OK thanks for the info ;) Then it is better to continue to use them in model name like currently I guess.

Greetings. I realize that the exchange between Jun and antp is way over a year old but I thought I might offer some identification assistance. If you no longer need the assistance, ignore me.

Here are a few links for identifying Harley's through their VIN (Vehicle Identification Number):

http://www.harley-performance.com/harley-vin.html
http://www.wwwildcats.com/harley_vin.htm
http://www.sportster.org/tech/vin.shtml (specific to Sportsters)
http://www.uni-trade-int.dk/html/vinid.htm

I realize that you can't see the VIN when looking at a picture. The way I learned to tell the difference between a Sportster and a Big Twin is by looking at the motors primary, especially the right hand side. There is a rather prominent round structure at the front of the primary. This is the backside of the oil filter mount. All Sporties have this on the right side. Big Twins do not. Also, the primaries on Sporties are shorter than on the Big Twins.

Just a little info that I hope is helpful.
