Malibu, right?

Yeah, this platform was used for 1980s Malibus. My dad had an '84 Malibu Classic Estate that looked just like this except his was blue.

'Course, this platform was also used for 1980s Safaris and Regals so it could be any of the three.

I think the light faux wood makes this a Pontiac Grand Le Mans Safari like this one http://www.autolit.net/Graphics/1008/151968.jpg

It couldn't have been an '84, because the last ones were made in 1983. Incidentally, I had an '83 Malibu station wagon once. Some kid in a first generation Honda Accord plowed into me a month or so after I got it and I spent the rest of the time with it driving around with a huge dent the passenger side fender. The Accord was in much worse shape, and so was the kid driving it(for the record, he lived). I wanted to chop off the front end and convert it into a utility trailer, but that plan was scrapped by a lack of funds.

No, he was the second owner of an '84 Chevy with a 350 diesel (he said that year GM finally worked the bugs out of their diesels but nobody cared by then) and all the options except power seats. I was with him when he bought it. I could be wrong about the exact model but it looked like the car here.
