![]() 1978 made-for-TV semi-autobiographical drama about a 12 year-old-boy named Dan Cooper and his 10-year-old sister who just got out of school for the summer and are eagerly anticipating the Fourth of July festivities! However, when a mute, mentally-impaired war veteran is accused of murder, it's up to their father, a successful attorney, to clear his name. Written, produced, and directed by Dan Curtis, who based this movie on actual events that happened during a summer vacation when he was a child, with Dan Cooper representing Curtis' childhood self. All of Dan's friends in the film are named after real-life friends he had growing up, though he didn't actually have a sister. He wanted to film on-location in Bridgeport, Connecticut but since he was working with a TV movie budget, had to settle for Echo Park in Los Angeles. Starring Dean Jones, Louise Sorel, Chris Petersen, and Katy Kurtzman! Simpson creator Matt Groening made his Hollywood debut in this film as an extra, though I didn't spot him. This was the final film role of child actor Eric Shea, best known as Robin in The Poseidon Adventure. ![]() Set in Bridgeport, Connecticut Set from June 6th to July 4th, 1937 Airdate: March 12th, 1978 -- Last edit: 2026-01-08 20:00:37 |
