Taking a punt on this as a 1983 "Special Edition". Back story was early 80s Lotus in US was in a mess without a proper distribution network. So a group of Lotus fans/investors set up a new import and distribution company [i]Lotus Performance Cars[i] (LPC) and launched with this US-created "Special Edition" - also known variously as the “Investor’s Special Edition” and “Silver Anniversary Edition”, the latter referring to Lotus’s 25 years of sales in the US - with the following spec for the 50 cars produced: - removable tinted glass roof panel with cover for stowage behind the engine (a feature not available on standard production Turbos until 1985); - individually blueprinted and optimised engine; - individually tested and matched suspension ride control units; - air conditioning; - comprehensive security system; - hallmarked English silver plaque on the steering wheel, personally engraved for the driver; - individually hand sign-written “Special Edition” insignia and build number on driver’s door; - optional exclusive two-tone Silver/Chrysler Steel Gray colour scheme with red pinstripe and silver/grey Connolly Leather interior with red stitching; - and upgraded Blaupunkt stereo and speakers. Main info source here; we already have #34 and #39 1985 ep date is close enough to the batch production and not much chance of non-edition cars at that period. Also I think I can see the Special Edition script on the driver door (see #39 pic). |
