![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() PMV 743 (disguises itself as AXA 567) Seems like a coachbuilt van, as it's smaller than your standard Express van. Filler location suggests it was converted from a saloon, but the bonnet badge clearly reads Commer. Not sure how to list this, as I couldn't find something similar either here or elsewhere. Unless I haven't checked well enough. |

I'm stumped as well for the same reasons. Front half looks normal Express until the B-pillar, with everything behind looking alien to either an Express, predecessor Supervan, or similar period Minx Estate (Phase 5). Wheelbase looks too short for either, but maybe similar to Minx saloon. Arch is rounder than Express or either Minx body and the wing flourish is abruptly terminated at the door pillar, although the semaphore position and mount is carried over. Windows look neatly inserted, and the drip channel is smoothly incorporated, so more than just a cut-and-shut bodge-up. So if rear body is not Rootes origin, is it a skilful mash-up from something else or a homemade one-off?? All the 50s Brit vans I can think of seem to have had some sort of flourish on their sides, not this plain treatment, so am thinking one-off, but done by someone who knew what they were doing, maybe adapting rear doors and lights from another source. Maybe enter as Commer Express Estate unless/until any better info emerges?? |

After a brief look and agreeing with the comments above, the front to the B pillar including the roof-line, the filler position, wheelbase and rear over-hang suggest it started as a Minx saloon. The roof at first look appeared over its length to be lower than the Express van, but I suspect from the final thumbnail it is raised slightly over the load area. Either a well executed saloon to van 'coach-built' conversion or perhaps, a donor van has been used for the rear section, again based on a saloon front end. Nothing comes to mind at the moment for where the rear section could come from. However the misalignment in the side view, it is pointing that way to me. ![]() -- Last edit: 2024-11-19 13:42:14 |
