There's a piece of the grille missing. Is this meant to be? Maybe the hood release is behind this slot. If that is so, anyone who knows this, could open the hood and steal stuff. How insane! When did these external hood releases fade into obscurity. |

1971 was the first year for the inside hood release on this model. The grille is broken. The 1971 Riviera grille was quite fragile. I think it was made of plastic. The 1972 model went back to a diecast grille that was more solid. |

The hubcaps appear to be cheap aftermarket imitation wire wheels, available at pretty much any Wal-Mart or Autozone. I've had a couple of old cars with them. |

When I've found aftersales market-hubcaps at or in some of my cars, it was the first, I'd thrown into the garbage-bin. Together with other un-original supermarket-extras like footmats, seat-covers and so on. |

Depends on the style for me. On a big 1960s-1980s vintage American car, these imitation wires are actually decent. Better than no hubcaps, anyway. On a few occasions I've bought older cars (a sky blue 1980 Plymouth Gran Fury and a pea green 1979 Ford LTD both spring to mind) with missing hubcaps as cheap transport, and in cleaning them up I'll generally toss a set of these on it. It's a cheap fix. |

Did it come with wheelcovers brand new? They probably didn't look much better than these wheel covers. |

My '71 Riviera's grille is broken in the almost identical way. In '72 they smartened up and used a diecast grille instead of '71s brittle plastic type. '72 is an entirely different pattern however. It's too bad no one is remanufacturing the '71 grille in metal! This Riviera has the cornering lamp option and by looks of thw factory chrome breather lid, is a desirable GS model. They were available with two wheel cover options that looked great, especially the finned type. There was also the option of Buick's chrome road wheels, which were extremely popular and look fantastic in my opinion. There were no spoked hubcaps available, and these cheap aftermarket ones do this beauty no favours. Samuel L. Jackson couldve gone with something a little better. Even steelies wouldve looked better in this shot, and made more sense. |

Those '71 to '73 Rivieras had one of the most distinctive front ends of their era. |

Yes, I like and miss that bold, aggressive look. Nowadays, cars look more like shrinking violets, afraid to assert themselves. |
