Are there any other pics? It looks like a Chevrolet (Holden) Commodore, but the curve of the C-pillar looks a bit like a Holden Special

The roofline looks a bit like that on the HR series Holdens of 1967-8. I assume this is supposed to be a cop car (with the blue light) so that would be too old in 2003.

Movie starts in 1976.

I suppose it is possible that it is an HR Premier. The wheels aren't standard. A pity we can't see either end of the car. Maybe it is an Opel Diplomat - did they sell them in SA?

:??:

Why Holden? The movie is from South Africa, not from Australia.

It's a KAD-Opel for sure, so an Admiral A, Diplomat A or Kapitän.

Hope this helps:

Based on these two pics I would say HR-series Holden ("Special") 1967/8 as nzcarnerd remarked. I can with safety say it is very unlikely to have been a KAD Opel - those were not sold here, only the Rekord was. The other larger GM cars were either Holdens or Chevrolet-branded Holdens (although, for a while, Opel, Holden, Ranger and Vauxhall-branded cars were on the market concurrently - that ended with the introduction of the Opel-based Chevy 2500/3800/4100 in the early '70s).

@Citsa: sorry for complaining, but it IS a Opel KAD A (Kapitän, Admiral, Diplomat). Holden Special doesn't fit.

I agree with Ingo that the Holden Special looks different. Or was the Opel KAD sold as Holden Special, without any relationship to the Australian model? Anyway, the thumbnail shows the front of the car that excludes the Diplomat (which had vertical headlights).

Cf. this pic of an Opel Admiral: http://www.autogaleria.pl/fotografie/opel/opel_admiral_1964-65.jpg
Btw, the Diplomat of this [A] series didn't have vertical headlights; these came with the [B] model. But, at least in Europe, those Diplomat [A] always had a vinyl roof. Therefore I guess this will be an Asmiral (Kapitän had less chromes), but still it could be that this car was sold as Holden or Chevrolet - I couldn't find any ZA-info on internet :/

The orign is 100% and definetely an Opel KAD(A), as DynaMike wrote, probably an Admiral. The wheels are some aftersales-market-stuff.
I have no idea, if the both Opel KAD-generations were ever assembled outside of the Opel-factory in Rüsselsheim. I think, the export of GM-car from one country, to annother one, where also GM-cars were built, was very unusual. So I've never heard about an official export to Australia. About South Africa, I'm not sure, if perhaps that models, which weren't built locally, were imported.

We had this kind of discussion in the forum, where Animatronixx wrote, that he saw once in the Rüsselsheim-factory some Holden-versions of the Omega. But perhaps they were only prototypes or 0-series.

Hmm, I just have checked, if I could perhaps "pimp up" my Opel Omega B with Holden-parts (grille and so on), but I must see, that the front is too different (and not very interesting) :/

A (very) few Opel Admiral/Diplomats were imported into the UK by GM but were definitely not right hand drive. Therefore I think it unlikely they were produced at Russelsheim for Australian use as either Opels or Holdens. Holden would have re-engineered the car as rhd.

Sunbar - that has been my point all along. The Holden HR Sedan was sold as the Holden Special in South Africa. I grew up in one, so I know them quite well. Please compare the picture above with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Holden_HR_Premier_186_1966_01.jpg.

It would be interesting to know what the differences are you see that would make this an Opel KAD (not sold in ZA).

@Citsa: sorry, your linked pic is broken.

It IS a Opel KAD A here, definitely. Every detail fits, no other possibility.
