I think this has the chrome side stripe of a Daimler. Or were US-market XJ40 Daimlers called Vanden Plas? |

none were Daimler branded here... Vanden Plas was offered as a Jaguar trim level. |

I think 80s US Jags (XJ6 and XJ40) got added chrome compared to UK equivalents, so not directly comparable across pictures. I'm not sure of the detail, but would expect a US Vdp to have more bling than this one. Unless anyone can confirm differently, the early wheels suggest just 1987+ XJ6. |

Doesn't it have the same alloys the Daimler had? -- Last edit: 2011-06-18 01:26:16 |

i believe so... the more common, but similar alloys had center caps that exposed the lugs (like the ones on the '88 in my profile pics.) |

Those are Sovereign alloys, the Daimler alloys didn't have those lug holes. -- Last edit: 2011-06-18 02:42:43 |

Were Daimler versions of the Jaguar XJ always Vanden Plas in the US? -- Last edit: 2011-06-18 02:46:05 |

if it helps at all... mine was in stock form, and only badged as an XJ6... neither Sovereign nor Vanden Plas... |

Thanks - that is useful with your pic. Suggests US was only simple XJ6 or VDP, so we only have 2 possibilities to play with. |

in certain years we did get Sovereign badging. i wish i knew, or recalled more. i'll try to join in the research in a day or two when things slow down for me, if it isn't thoroughly sorted by then... |

I have an old Kelly Blue Book guide that I use for research, and it shows a XJ-6 Sovereign model from 1990-92. It was priced in the middle between the base and Vanden Plas models. For 1993, just the base and Vanden Plas models for the XJ-6, and the XJ-12 was re-introduced. -- Last edit: 2011-06-18 18:40:51 |

Whichever trim here, this is XJ6. |
