Not Alvis, who AFAIK were too busy building aircraft engines in WW2, and I don't think Humber because I think their WW2 production was obviously Super Snipe based; and certainly not the similar (but IIRC much more common) Ford/Fordson V8. I always suspected Morris-Commercial had a hand in it, but I don't know why. |

although "staff car" is incorrect..it was always referred to as "Heavy utility".....staff car was the Humber Snipe series 4 door saloon. |

The Humber Utility was the off road equivalent of the Humber Snipe staff car. It was designed using the snipe engine but with 4x4 and new running gear to cope with the rugged terrain of the battlefield. Inside it was well appointed with very comfortable seats (for a military vehicle), a map table and radio. Monty had one as did many of the top brass. This example is a late one, because of the curved windscreen surrounds. |
