Rear window so at least 1951+ definitely pre-1955 (no roof overhang) and pre-1954 (no rear bumper), when exactly were these introduced to the US @tore-40? I have found a 1952 brochure that bills them 'Midget Bus'. |

I wasn't aware that the Typ 2 was also called "Midget Bus" in USA. I've always been familiar with "Station Wagon". |

Exact date unknown, as brochures are few. And most were printed in Germany, so names and models may not be accurate anyway - Popular Mechanics may very well have based their names on these, as they were more a description than a model name, they were simply a VW. Rear bumper 03/53 for Sambas, 10/54 for the rest of the models (but could be ordered at extra cost) US and Canada may have got them from the very beginning. For the Midget name, Canadian brochure 1952 and still 1958 they use Midget Bus, btw US market I suspect used Station Wagon from the start, yes, and Kombi for the less equipped model, sometimes as Kombi Station Wagon, where Canada used Midget Bus An early - very early - US brochure could give a clue |
