Ford B-Series - Carpenter Coach Bus Single deck NOT School |
|
◊ 2023-10-07 01:30 |
I'm not going to get into this argument again, but the school bus lights (red & yellow flashing lights) are clearly visible on the top on the bus |

The lights on top of this bus also look red and yellow (or orange, if you will), it also has two slots for license/number/whatever plates which I'd only ever seen on a school bus, so I submitted it as such but it was changed to single deck. I don't like to make the same mistake twice, so I remembered that and I submitted this bus as single deck as result, but it was changed to school bus. Now I'm confused. Any advice for any future submissions I might make with buses like this? |

Converted/retired school buses should be entered as School Buses. Even if the bus is repurposed for other use after retirement. Same logic would go for a retired ambulance that was converted to an ice cream truck or a customized camper, or a zombie survival unit. -- Last edit: 2023-10-07 02:07:44 |

Yes the warning lights are there and are painted over. Yes it was a former school bus. To me for transporting students to and from school the bus should be yellow in color and the warning lights functional, which being painted over are not. |

i agree to " Born a school bus, always a school bus no matter what happens " -- Last edit: 2023-10-07 02:13:51 |

My argument - In North America, school buses are purpose-built vehicles distinguished from other types of buses by design characteristics mandated by federal and state/provincial regulations. In addition to THEIR DISTINCT PAINT COLOR (National SCHOOL BUS GLOSSY YELLOW), school buses are fitted with exterior warning lights (to give them traffic priority) and multiple safety devices. The current paint color is why I say bus, single deck... |

I'm obviously fine with and will do whatever you say since I'm in no position to argue. That said, the bus I linked to in my previous comment is listed as single deck. Is it actually a single deck bus or is it a repurposed school bus and should be listed as such? |

its only paint.. nothing else in its conception changed from the days it was bringing students to their daily nightmare ( well, for some.. ) . Just paint it back to school bus yellow and it will blend in with all the other ones..to me its about like saying that a forklift that belongs to Coke can't lift a Pepsi pallet because of the name on it Its not different that if i take a MCI Classic and paint it school bus yellow, it still will be a single deck bus could be but if we start this there is a lot of ex-this and ex-that on the site.. -- Last edit: 2023-10-07 02:44:55 |

Putting a descriptor such as "ex-school bus" as info should clarify it's not now what it was?? |
|
◊ 2023-10-07 02:48 |
But we do already in lots of cases - eg ex-ambulance |

Baube - When I was employed at a state school for disabled students, they actually purchased a GMC PD-4104 and painted it school bus yellow. Yes, paint is the magic word. If you had/have children would you let them ride the bus, as painted above, to school?? -- Last edit: 2023-10-07 06:24:50 |

Or 9C1 police cars repurposed as taxis, they are still listed as 9C1 |

From the pages of NHTSA, a part of USDOT: Any school bus meeting the identification recommendations of sections l, a-h above that is permanently converted for use wholly for purposes other than transporting children to and from school or school-related events should be painted a color other than National School Bus Glossy Yellow, and should have the stop arms and school bus signal lamps described by sections 1, e & f removed. School buses, while being operated on a public highway and transporting primarily passengers other than school children, should haVe the words "School Bus" covered, removed, or otherwise concealed, and the stop arm and signal lamps described by sections 1, e & f should not be operated. (Any typos are left unedited) |

well, i went for all my high-school years in GM New Look and MCI/Novabus Classic rented from the STL ( which kept the STL livery as they were also used as regular bus ) . I'll give you that they did not stopped in various spots and used the STL bus stops but they were full of students and carrying them to school . To me the modifications are not extensive enough as all you need to do to turn it to school bus again is paint and few parts ( stop arm, flashing lights ) , its not like it was converted into a motorhome and needed to nearly rebuilt the whole interior to accomodate students once again. I guess the NHL will send me the Stanley Cup before we agree but it's fine .. -- Last edit: 2023-10-07 17:09:30 |
