Seems some Chevys (and Buicks) were built here in Hendon from "early 1920s" alongside CDN imports, but after GM bought Vauxhall these dwindled, and when GM brought out the 6-cyl OHV "cast iron wonder" in 1929 UK production ended, and Hendon switched to trucks. The main UK model was listed as 21.7HP, several body styles, 1924-27, withe Buick as 25/75, 1927-30. |

If it is a truck, it most likely is an early British Chevrolet/Bedford /v001160174.html |

The cast iron wonder was not used in the Bedford trucks. Agreed it was the progenitor of the design, but the Bedford always had pressure fed lubrication whereas the Chevrolet used splash, leading to an inferior product. The Bedford’s first year of production was 1931 and the subject vehicle is not a Bedford, it’s a Chevrolet. Information from “The Automobile” Volume 8 No. 3. -- Last edit: 2023-02-01 09:24:08 |
