Probably a Singer 9 Sports 1933 to 1937. The bonnet louvres in four groups and the knock off wheels support this. |

What I'm looking at first, is that Beardmore taxi in the middle. Very nice and rare taxi. |

Austin Taxi behind the Beardmore- all suggestive of 1950's, so the Singer is more than 20 years old in this scene. In Britain there was a shortage of new cars post war and many old ones were kept in service until the fateful Ministry odf Transport 'Ten Year Test'- introduced in 1961- swept most of them off of the roads. It seems one did not feel even slightly ridiculous wearing one's bowler hat whilst driving an open sports car in the 1950's, and The very small drum brakes on the Singer would not encourage over enthusiastic driving! That said, these cars required between about 22 and 30 seconds to reach 50 miles per hour and most would not reach 70, so that nice hat would probably not fly off in the wind anyway. -- Last edit: 2010-03-15 14:21:48 |
