There's no correlation between sanity and wealth. |

A base Fiero cost $7,999 in 1984, while a base Firebird cost $8,753. Fiero Sport cost $8,819 while Fiero SE cost $9,919. In comparison, a Firebird SE cost $11,053 and a Trans Am cost $11,103. |

well I would spend the extra for the Firebird , the Fiero looks too fragile and was even then critisized for it's lack of performance, safety and reliability |

If I remember my sources (1980's magazines) the Fiero was marketed as an inovative car, which might applied to at least some. Also I believe the plastics might have contributed to better fuel economy, perhaps important to some when fuel prices soared. |

The Fiero was smaller, lightweight and mid-engine, it cost less as well. It was a different driving experience than the Trans Am. |
