Is it really a Renault?  I am not sure.The C-pillar looks strange, and the part above headlights make me think to another car... (on Encore & Alliance there was a chrome & black part above and below the headlights, which were thinner than on the 11 & 9). -- Last edit: 2007-10-01 18:32:07 |

Alliance, not Encore. IIRC, there were no 5-door Encores, so with two pairs of doors it has to be the Alliance (sedan). The notchback is also discernable. The front end is pretty unique, so I believe this is the AMC-Renault. |

Now that's something I've never seen, thanks! That said, wouldn't it be an Alliance hatchback (if you know what I mean?), which would explain why I haven't heard of an Encore 5-door... |

No. Encore is a 5-door hatchback and 4-door sedan is a Alliance. |

The Encore name was dropped in 1987 (last year) and the model was then renamed Alliance Hatchback. So most of the US R11 are Encore, 3 or 5 door. |

I didn't know about that last year change. In 1987 there was also offered a performance model called 'GTA'. Only 3500 were made and these were based on 2-door Alliance and Alliance cabriolet models. http://pages.infinit.net/argus/renault_gta/ |
