No, it's a Samaritan by Wadham Stringer (Coachbuilders) Ltd. of Waterlooville, Hampshire.

This proves it is a Devon Conversions build - Link to "www.buslistsontheweb.co.uk" - search the page for the registration H475 AEU - they did a lot for Avon Ambulance who loaned vehicles to the Casualty production team.

OK, I can't argue here, as I have no proof. That means Devon Conversions Ltd. of Ferryhill did a cover version of one of Wadham Stringer's not so greatest hits... probably on better terms.

In that case should we merge it, there some vehicles on here that I feel need merging to clean up the page

Seems sensible to me! It's the same vehicle refreshed with a newer livery.

IMO, 14.09 and 16.09 are both this one with fake plates (L823EJX is a Land Rover, the 1997/98 plate in 16.09 is clearly wrong for the 86-91 style Transit).

It's a weird coincidence, but it's the same batch as the one in the main image here (both H475AEU and H468AEU are genuine plates and appear on the list here) but is used 7 series later.

To me it seems that in the earlier episodes the ambulances were borrowed from the local ambulance service and body/chassis manufacturers so were fairly new units. Later on, the ambulance service were more presumably reluctant to lend vehicles, so the producers may have started buying old ambulances to use, maybe starting with H468AEU. Certainly after they stopped using the 1999 Sprinter (probably a demo vehicle on loan/rented?), they started using older vehicles, which I guess they bought.

The only question is whether we merge all the possible sitings of H468AEU, and whether we maintain separate pages for it and H475AEU (identical vehicles, but both used enough to merit pages)

Seems like a sensible idea! Both H475AEU & H468AEU belonged to Avon Ambulance and were genuine vehicles borrowed for filming as you've said.

I say keep them both separate to cut down on the confusion.

This Promo shot here confirms that are two ford ambulances with the plates you mentioned

It looks like they two different bodies so hopefully it should make it easier to identify them

Hard to tell but it might the actual AEU plate

Sandie SX

2020-08-08 22:55

I think it's G177XEU there, which is on this list as an Avon Ambulance service vehicle: Link to "www.buslistsontheweb.co.uk" (I think between the pre and post Renault Master episodes we have quite a few of the G1xxXEU and H4xxAEU ambulances represented)

My head is spinning about which one out of H468AEU and G177XEU had the full width blue stripe on the front of the roof and which one didn't now though! The ones with fake plates seem to vary on that detail. Maybe both AEU and XEU had fake plates at various times?

As an aside, G177XEU is still on SORN (so not scrapped or wrecked), but is now registered as a car transporter. Guessing after Casualty it was converted to a tow-truck!

If it helps, if we look at the promo image again, one point maybe they had different bodies, I am confused about which is which as well, which has lead me to accidently create 1 entry which could be (/vehicle_1279079-Ford-Transit-Ambulance.html) either 2 of the ford ambulances this or /vehicle_1359862-Ford-Transit-Ambulance-1990.html

That's actually H648 AEU, /vehicle_1359862-Ford-Transit-Ambulance-1990.html. Thx Chaymond! You made the plate hunting a lot easier as this H648 AEU still possibly had one strip from S13 to S16 seen here meaning therefore this matches the promo pic I saw ^. So therefore this means H648 AEU, possibly still had the one strip up to S16 meaning, the fake plated one strip ambulances were properly H648 AEU!

No worries I’ll post it on that vehicle as well.

so the thumb for 14.07 possibly shows both H648 AEU and H475 AEU, The promo pic back this up. 13.09 thumb shows they have same backs as well the 'handle bar' on the roof, again 13.16 backs this up so i guess we getting somewhere with this.
