A GTL: extra protection on the corners, extra grille between normal grille and bumper (because of 1100 cc engine).

Edit: I just noticed this R4 is categorised as a wagon... and I checked on the site: some are sedans, some are hatchbacks... For me the hatchback category seems to be the most apropriate.

R4 should be listed as hatchback, I often check all of them to fix the errors (how come that there are again so many wrongly listed!?)
Only exceptions are vans for the van version, of course, and some special versions like /vehicle.php?id=46197 or /vehicle.php?id=4799

Note for the other admins : the Renault 4 is a hatchback, not a wagon nor a sedan ;) ("berline à hayon" for the French version of the site)

You can blame at least some of the Wagons on me, I would define it as a wagon. But it´s admittedly somewhat in the twilight zone between wagon and hatchback. The rear end is more upright than most hatchbacks and the door goes all the way from floor to roof on it. When they were introduced for modelyear 62 there were yet no hatchbacks on the market so they were at the time considered as wagons. The modern hatchbacks came with the R16 in 1965, there had been other cars earlier like the Kaiser Traveller/Frazer Vagabond of the late 40´s with a similar concept, but was so to speak developed and re-introduced by Renault. So even if the concept of hatchbacks have arrived and at least almost fits even the R4 I´d like to call them wagons. But it´s not a big deal for me and I guess we´ll always have cars that won´t perfectly fit in just one category.

Just checked my original Renault 4 [R1120-R1121] workshop manual, printed fall of 61, in that one they´re called Berline (Sedan). Just to add to the confusion :)

Some hatchbacks are a bit older, like the French Ford Abeille and the American Kaiser Traveller, the 2CV with ENAC-conversion, maybe the Austin A40 Farina with a hatch, and for me even a Traction Commerciale is more like a hatchback han a wagon, since it has the same shape as the other long versions. There has also been a Renault 4 wagon (at least in Holland, called Combinatiewagen): a Fourgonnette with side windows and rear seats (similar to the 2CV AZUL 'Week-End'.

As mentioned in the discussion about the PT Cruiser, the Renault 4 has the same problem than the PT Cruiser for the category: /vehicle.php?id=109664
Note that on wikipedia the R4 is listed as hatchback.
