@carking: Some years and disguises of the 740/760 (and actually also the 940!) series look very similar. Please show us that you are worthy your alias and tell us why this is a 740 and not a, very similar looking, 760! If you cannot do that, please don't write (random?) numbers until you have studied those models in detail. And I mean in detail, because there're very minute details that differ some models. Some models come (came?) with different names in different markets, some even looked like a different model. It all depends on legislations and demands. http://www.volvotips.com/index.php/940-960/history-940-960/ (Please have a look in the middle of the page) -- Last edit: 2018-05-06 16:17:40 |

@RedBoy9199: From 1985 the U.S. version of the 740 (GLE) got the painted lower half of the bumpers which the 760 had from start. The 760 was introduced in 1982, but it probably took until 1983 until it reached USA and Canada, because it had a lot of teething problems. |

Okay, I'll leave it to you, @zodiac. After all, you know more about Volvo models than I do, especially when it comes to the 700/900 series etc. -- Last edit: 2025-09-19 23:03:47 |

@RedBoy9199: I don't want you to misunderstand me, and I certainly don't want to discourage you from make improvements to this site. But there're a couple of things that I feel I need to explain. A short time after I became a member on imcdb I bought a magazine on 'classic' cars. In that issue it was an article with the approximate headline '100 things you need to do in your life to improve your relationship with classic cars'. One was to have a ride in a V8 convertible and another was to contribute on imcdb. However imcdb was there described as the most perfect site on the web concerning cars with accurate information in every possible way, and since then I've read numerous articles where information has been picked from here. That frightens me, because nothing a human does can be perfect, that is only a privilege of a God. But we can strive... Concerning Volvo, that's a real problem, because Volvo is a small company on a global market. Which gives rise to two problems: Firstly as a small company they have to keep models alive for a long time as sheet metal pressing machines are hugely expensive, but they have to keep the interest up for the models. That means small changes that aren't too expensive. Secondly models are not equally interesting around the world depending on economy and different things that have happened in the past. Also legislation has to be taken into consideration. All this means that similar models can be named and be different depending on where in the world it appears. Which also makes this site interesting. Now and then people become a member and sees a Volvo, and thinking 'that I do recognise', and picking a number from a hat. The worst person I've came across was 'carking' which for a long time picked random numbers which I did my best to rectify. He was also arrogant and could not improve. That frightened me a lot, and sometimes I'm afraid he's came back in a different disguise. You, RedBoy9199, is different, and really want to make this site better. Therefore I say: Keep the fighting spirit up, and I'm sorry for correcting you! Finally, don't see me as perfect, which I'm not. But I like to dig deep to find information... -- Last edit: 2025-09-20 12:20:44 |
