VW Samba-Bus (1952) You can identify it by the small windows in the roof. http://www.oldievan.de/html/samba-bus.html |

T1 was the VW internal type name, while "Samba" was the nickname. Was manufactured in Germany in the 50s/60s and in Brazil for a much longer time. |

You are right, the official name was "Sondermodell" (Special Edition). Actually "T1" (meaning "Transporter Number 1") is unofficial, too. It came into use with the introduction of the second generation VW Transporter/Bus, then unofficially named T2. The official name for the T1 is "Typ 2" (Type 2). "Typ 1" is the VW "Käfer" (Beetle). Käfer or Beetle is a nickname, also. The german nickname for the VW Transporter/Bus is "Bulli". This of course was not used in english speaking countries, as "bully" is another word for tyrant! :-) As by now probably everyone is confused, keep the name as it is! Just take my babble as background information ;-) |

This Kombi is from the sixties, as rear lamps and wider rear door show. This model, I believe german, with windows on the roof was never produced in Brazil, where production of VW Kombi started in 57 and is still being produced, although now with sliding door, injection engine, double-cardan shafts ans face-lifting similar to german Kombi Clipper, which is the name here, too. It was noticed last week. Air cooled engines (1600) are no longer available, and Kombi will be driven by 1.4 watercooled, with a higher output, now 80 HP anstead of 65 HP. A large black plastic cooler is installed in the front. |

The green one is a '63 or older (but not older than 1961 unless the tail lights have been updated). The red and white unit ahead of it is a '64 or newer as evidenced by the wider rear hatch. |

Third door at the left side indicates right hand drive. Could this be Australia version? |

This is in Hong Kong, so it's not likely to be a special version for Australia. ![]() |
