That is a 1967-68 Chrysler (AUS) Valiant VIP , ([VE] series) - top of the Australian Valiant range - powered by 273 ci LA series Chrysler V8. Very rare car in Australia, extremely rare in UK. Probably less than 100 exported to UK, only 60 of previous VC model were exported there. -- Last edit: 2007-06-09 03:43:07 |

I think I saw one of these drive past today. I only saw it from the back, but it was the right size, it had a Chrysler badge and it had the same style of rear wheel arch covering the top of the wheel. |

I watched this episode last night. The Valiant was referred to as being an American car but I knew better... thanks IMCDB for confirming my pedantry. |

After all the collisions it was indeed looking beaten up, and then it got blown up. |

The rail wagon which the car is seen flying over is known as a 'Lowmac'.You can see the British Rail TOPS Code 'XLV' (designation for the wagon) almost in line with the car's registration plate. These wagons were originally intended to carry unusual, nearly out of gauge and heavy loads.By the 1970s such wagons carried wagon wheels, diggers, plant for rail engineers etc. |

I'd suggest that it's a Regal... VIP's were longer, had quad headlights, completely different taillights and a smaller limo style rear window. I once knew a tow truck driver that pulled a clean example out from under some old blokes house. He couldn't give it away so it went to the scrappy. T hy at was about 2 po years ago. |

Aus Chryslers in UK account here. "However, Rootes and Chrysler persevered with their plan to top out their range with the Australian machines. During 1967, a more limited range was imported to Britain - the VE Valiant Saloon and Estate Car and the Regal Six. The VE model was based on Chrysler’s new 1967 American A body with a 108" wheelbase, up by 2", and a full 8” greater width. The Australian cars combined Plymouth Valiant midsections with a Dodge Dart-like front design, but also borrowed from the B-body parts bins. The VE had the first long wheelbase Valiant spin off, which were known as either the "V.I.P." or Regal. This derivative continued through the VE, VF and VG Series." So UK naming between VIP or Regal not confirmed. |
