"He still does spectacular demonstration runs today there he handicaps himself by wearing a pair of marigolds..." https://youtu.be/RthBXJ-Oth0?t=134 "Well, well, he went off to polish the laurels. The guys went out for some sideways shenanigans. This time they all were forced to wear marigolds." https://youtu.be/RthBXJ-Oth0?t=192 What is he talking about? What does he mean by 'wearing marigolds' and 'sideways shenanigans'? |

Marigolds = gloves - a well-known brand for household cleaning - http://www.marigold.co.uk/products/?type=Gloves Shenanigans = "silly or high-spirited behaviour; mischief". So "Sideways shenanigans" is just arsing about on a track in the usual Top Gear fashion with lots of burnt rubber and car crumpling. |

Thank you very much, dsl! I thought it was some kind of slang for mechanical parts of the vehicle, but that didn't make sense at all What does 'polish the laurels' mean? |

'polish the laurels' could be a reference to the white 4 door in the clip which looks like a Nissan Laurel(?). Or he's going to polish his collection of winning trophies. Or it's a Clarkson pun to cover both. |

Thanks again! I thought the very same thing even though the car in question is a Bluebird instead: /vehicle_1065802-Nissan-Bluebird-910-1980.html |

Interestingly enough that Nissan Silvia is a Kei Office one Keiichi Tsuchiya's company, it was featured in many BestMOTORing videos. here is one for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPQyQgyuNMI. its also most likely that the event that Clarkson was at was most likely and early version of D1GP or Drift Tengoku not 100% sure though. |
