I've read either 1983 or 1984 model year was when the new bumpers started. One place stated that 1983 was the last year for the chrome bumpers. Another states that 1983 was the start of them. The wiki page sources an article from Oct. 1983 about the new front end (1984 MY). The AVanti Owners Assoc. divides the split at 1984.
