I don't think you know what the Norwegian car market was like in the 1950s. That being said, the EMW 340 was one of the best-selling cars in its class back then. As was the case with several other Eastern European cars as you could purchase one without a permit. Eastern European cars and motorcycles were exempt from the private car rationing law as excessive trade with the Soviet Union enabled low import rates. Basically, Norway exported fish and received cars in return. From the 1st of October 1960 this law was abolished (since 1957 for Volvos) and you could obtain any car without a permit (trucks were already exempt from 1952 which is why you don't see any Eastern European trucks in Norwegian films). With the abolition in force, new car sales multiplied and Eastern European models sold comparatively poorly from now on as they were seen as less desirable (with the exception of Skoda, and to some extent Moskvitch and Volga).

Anyway, the car in the picture doesn't look quite right for an EMW. The bumper is off, for starters.
