No, not Gaz 51. The door look similar to Zil-130 or 131, but the truck looks too small for those.. If its Russian at all..

It is a supposed north-korean truck in a movie made actually in south-korea, if it can help...

The split-windscreen let me think could be a pre-'50s truck...but if was modified for the movie??...

I am quite sure it is a GAZ. Although I cannot seem to find the model. See the images here: http://www.autogallery.org.ru/gaz51.htm I doesn't match 100%, but it comes close I think. Especially this http://www.autogallery.org.ru/k/g/gaz51f.jpg, I don't know about the fender though. This one could come close also, although the image is very poor: http://www.autogallery.org.ru/k/g/m20pick.jpg

I am not yet convinced it is a Russian truck. For me it looks more like a Japanese truck of the late 1950s or early 1960s.

Not perfect, but coming close, are these Isuzu:

I think the blue one of the first link matches the most. Although the truck on this page doesn't seem to have the two badges above the fender, which the bleu one has. Also the rearview mirrow seems to match. The yellow one has a small light (?) behind the door, that isn't visible on this photo.

I think your suggestion is the best one so far Alexander, nice find!

...ouch, four months! sorry too late.
I saw this movie twice (or so)
1. I'm quite sure it is not japanese car
2. it wears rug pattern or all terrain tire and looks militaly vehicle or AWD
3. size of this car is looks a bit longer than GAZ 69
4. ...also I want to know what this car is :D

I suspect that (a) you've found the exact truck used in the film and (b) it was customised to look more Soviet/North Korean. The front reminds me rather of the ZiL 131.

I think so too.
It is listed here but requires registration, so I registered.: Link to "www.kumhooldcar.com"
I can post the pictures.

Description:

지스트럭
1950년
50년~60년
ZIL
러시아

지스트럭 = jiseuteuleog = ZIS truck
러시아 = Russia
But the description mentions ZIL.
It is listed as 1950 but I cannot find any ZIS/ZIL trucks like this.

Anyway, now I've seen the front I think it was previously used in Gongdong gyeongbi guyeok JSA (Joint Security Area):

Oh, yes. :)
Fenders and cabin shape look very much like Bedford, by the way. Check the Bedford J-Type/A-Type/D-Type for reference.

This has got to be a ZIL, the hood, and everything about the cab except the divided windshield matches this ZIL http://www.flickr.com/photos/29554687@N06/5155551846/in/faves-ac_zadam/ and the front looks like a ZIL 131 http://www.carsbase.com/photo/ZIL-131_mp126_pic_40717.jpg

It's smaller. But from angle on main picture i would believe its ZiL. BTW thi ZiL http://www.flickr.com/photos/29554687@N06/5155551846/in/faves-ac_zadam/ is actually GAZ.

tom11

2011-12-09 16:25

This truck is really bugging me, I mean the hood and door are a perfect match to the GAZ 53 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/97/Gaz53_kirov.jpg while the front looks like a ZIL 131 (meaning it could have been a replica of a ZIL 131 built from a GAZ 53) but the truck is to small to be a GAZ 53, What could it be?

Gag Halfrunt UK

2011-12-09 17:33

Well, it's a "made for movie" originally done for "Joint Security Area" or perhaps something else before that:
/movie_260991-Gongdong-gyeongbi-guyeok-JSA.html

Since these are South Korean films, the base vehicle is likely to be South Korean or Japanese. The front styling is loosely inspired by the ZiL 131, but I would suspect that the doors and roof area are original and might enable us to identify it.

tom11

2011-12-09 20:41

The door looks about right for a Bedford J type http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/photos-nantwich/68.jpg its about the right size as well, however it seems a little odd in a South Korean movie, and the window on the door looks a little to rounded.

Sunbar UK

2011-12-09 21:08

Although similar, is not a Bedford A/D/J-type door.

The Bedford door has a one-piece pressing including the window aperture. The "made for movie" door looks to have a separate window frame added to the main door pressing. Also the Bedfords had a cut-out in the front of the door because of the intrusion of the front wing.

It would be odd to sacrifice a real Soviet truck to make a fake Soviet-ish truck.

Will you stop with your "perfect match"? The only matching thing is that it is a door, but it is clearly not the same.

Gag Halfrunt UK

The one thing we can be reasonably sure about is that it is not a real Soviet model because, as I said, "It would be odd to sacrifice a real Soviet truck to make a fake Soviet-ish truck."
