This must be an American school bus. |

It looks like one, and was probably made by an American school bus company. But the taillights and license plates are much too European. |

I meant school bus in terms of vehicle type rather than how it was used. The number plate is Portuguese, I think, and you're right about the tail lights -- they must have been replaced at some point. |

I thought they were original, and built for European(perhaps specifically Portuguese) standards. |

That's also possible, but it struck me that the lights look more modern than the bus. Then again, even new American school buses have quite an old-fashioned look. |

None of this school bus have been imported for trading to european market, the few we can meet on european roads are particular importations of second hand (or third hand) buses. |

They might also be bought secondhand from US military bases in Europe, since the US forces also use buses of this type. |

I believe this is an American bus body manufacturer(looks like a Carpenter to me) but all American school buses have federal requirements for tail light placement. Several American bus body manufacturers have factories in South America and Mexico. Theres really no way of telling what the chassis manufacturer is, I could guess late 60's International Harvester Loadstar due to the shape of the left front fender. |

Firebird, For someone supposedly knowledgeable about buses (this is the 3rd error on your part that I've found; but whose counting)it is very easy to tell the body manufacturer. IT IS A HIGH HEADROOM SUPERIOR COACH. Only Superior had a rear end shaped like that. Check old catalogs if you have any. antp You are welcome. Firebird has made errors though and he says he sells them so that what was my comment referred to. There are about 5 that I know of. I'll give him the benefit of doubt on this one but the others were not qualified. He was sure and he was incorrect -- Last edit: 2006-12-26 00:56:00 |

He never said that he was expert in busses; as he said "looks like a Carpenter to me", not "this is a Carpenter" ![]() Thanks for the identifications of the busses btw. -- Last edit: 2006-12-25 21:48:08 |
