^Indeed Perhaps a Defender 90 with a newer front clip? |
◊ 2011-07-04 13:32 |
Pixar wiki says he is a Range Rover L322. His name is Axlerod not Axelrod. |
◊ 2011-07-04 15:58 |
This is no more a Range Rover than I am Megan Fox That model of Range Rover was never fitted with a Rover V8 anyway. They had a BMW or Jaguar/Land Rover V8. If anything a Defender 90 or a three door Discovery but it is not that close to any particular Land Rover. Some parts of it make me think to a Foers Ibex ( http://www.allisons.org/ll/4/Foers/Ibex2/1995.jpg ) but it maybe too left field for the animators to have based the car on it. |

I'd suggest a stylised version of a 2 Door Range Rover. The 'Axlerod' graphic on the bonnet leading edge is a Range Rover feature, the grille amd lights are similar to early ones, and the back story for Axlerod in the film has some parrallels to the 'Darien Gap' expedition undertaken by a British Army crew with 2 early Range Rovers in 1970. Absolutely no Defender styling cues on him at all. A bit of a joke the 'British Aluminum V8' is a 'lemon' engine too. It was originally an American design, which was an awful lot better once Rover had done their thing with it in the 60's. Without going into acomete history, it has an excellent reputation in cars, with the poor reliability and block problems in Range Rovers down to poor quality block castings, the higher quality ones all went to TVR/Morgan etc. They were a lot better once cosworth started making the blocks. Anyways, Stylised Range Rover |

No, definitely not a Shogun. It has a completely different grille and the wheelhouse is different as well. |

If that's a Land Rover, my names's ingo. The bump in the roofline is a bit like an old LR Discovery, but there's nothing else. |

But it shall be British for sure. Not only the many Union Jacks are showing that - also the inevitable red phone boxes are substantiating hardcore-Britishness. |
◊ 2011-08-17 14:49 |
If it looks like anything specific, it's more like a Mercedes-Benz 280 GE [W460] with a badly drawn Hummer grille. All the Union Jacks and the phone-box are desperate attempts to disguise another half-arsed failure. |

Its from a publicity scene for Miles. If it were in real life, it would probably look just as cheesy. |
◊ 2011-08-18 00:14 |
This is Eddie Izzard? Has to be a British car then. |

A land-Rover Defender 90 is definatly what he is supposed to be, anything that doesn't match are just customizations. |
◊ 2011-11-27 17:56 |
Interestingly enough, although he was probably designed before it, he seems to bear a (slightly, at least) striking resemblance to this year's Land Rover DC100 concept... Link to "cache.gawkerassets.com" |

What was that electric SUV that someone has previously posted up? his comment has been deleted, does anyone remember what it was called? |

No Definetly not British - Cannot See any Range Rover in it - To me it looks something like a 1980s Dacia of Romania - I sure I noted a similar design somewhere in my database - I think Eastern Europe is the source.like Dr Z .. Somewhere where they cannot complain for Licensing issues |

Why do so many people seem determined to insist that these animations have to be based on single specific vehicles? Some Cars 2 animations are occasionally actually recognisable, but most are just an inaccurate mess flung together by people who clearly don't want to do anything more ambitious than create cuddly characters for 10 year olds to go gooey about, so they're at best vague approximations and a waste of energy trying to pin down. There's no Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy either, and the earth is not flat. |

Agree, there is no Jeep mixed in here. Sir Miles Axlerod is supposed to be a Land-Rover based vehicle. Styling cues are taken from various Land-Rover utilities with generic styling cues mixed in, which is why he does not look specifically like any one model. Since he is the antagonist, he is therefore not going to be like any specific Land-Rover model as the company did not approve to have any of it's vehicles rendered for that role. The only correctly rendered Land-Rovers in this movie are the British Army/Royal Air Force Land-Rovers and those seen around "The Queen". Its a marketing gamble to have your vehicles play a antagonistic role, which is why most manufacturers opt out. -- Last edit: 2012-07-06 04:14:25 |

Before range rover switched to fuel injection they were powered by the 3.5 ltr v8 |

And I can't agree with you more. |

Land Rover Defender but with a different grille |

Check out this little reference in the movie. I really like how they added a spoof of British Leyland Genuine Parts. They even got a spoof of the British Leyland logo too!! -- Last edit: 2022-03-11 01:37:24 |

So they can name a car Leland but decide to skirt British Leyland? That doesn't make any sense... -- Last edit: 2022-03-11 14:40:29 |
