![]() I was curious for the crash scene, I wanted to know if that yellow pole was added there for the movie or if it was real. The location is Boulevard Albert II: Link to "maps.google.com" Bing Maps gives a nice view: ![]() (the building on the right in the movie capture is the one seen here on the left) I do not see what a pole would be doing there in the middle of the avenue, so I guess it was just for the movie. I pass near there from time to time, next time I'll take that avenue and make a photo ![]() |

Why did they crash this nice, new car? ![]() |

I don't want to sound like an a***hole, but probably because they can afford to do it? But yes, I agree, it sucks to see a nice car damaged. -- Last edit: 2010-10-27 18:20:32 |

Doesn't look like a significant bit of damage. The other possibility is they used an ex-works test/homologation/certification pre-production car which would be crushed anyway as it could not be legally registered for normal road use. As this 7 is a recent launch, there may have been a few still lurking in warehouses or compounds. |

It is probably provided by BMW as product placement, since it is well used. And indeed the damage is not _so_ big: still repairable (and worth repairing, for such kind of cars). If they did the same to an old one, it would not be worth repairing and sent directly to the junkyard -- Last edit: 2010-10-27 18:42:57 |

I went to Germany recently and there were no E32s and W126 around. I guess you can blame Action Concept and the Abwrackprämie for that, but mostly the Abwrackprämie. |

Introduced in the 2008 calendar year for the 2009 model year. |

Yes, the "Abwrackprämie" was really rubbish, but Action Concept crashes cars which will die on the junkyard. And the Old- and Youngtimer aren´t restored. |

@ Kowalski: Abwrackprämie has rather claimed the "smaller" models like E30, E34 and E36 and W124, W201, W202 and W210. The bigger, more prestigous cars tend to "emigrate" when they get older. Africa, Russia, the Baltic States and the Middle East are common destinations. It was the same with the pompuous W140. Almost 90% of those once sold in Germany have been exported. |

It doesn't give me a good opinion of BMW alloy wheels ! |

The disappeared much earlier than 2009, as it's said here, always to the export. In the statistics about Abwrackprämie-car there aren't found too many. The reasons for giving them aways are the High Tech inside (which in damaged condition can cause big monetary and mental dramas), the high running costs as fuel, tax and insurance and the high spare-part-prices. Something for the German speakers here. It was the most popular eBay-auction in the last week: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150507817557 168.535 visitors have loughed about the funny, but absolute correct description about the usual Junk-Mercedes-buyers. So elegant formulated, that it's not racistic - but indeed true and neccessary. -- Last edit: 2010-10-27 22:26:46 |
