Model year is 1973 to 1979 (evidenced by high turn signals and square bumpers). |

Made for USA due to federally mandate side marker... |

This is not a '73, as it has the later-model sliding door handles and fuel tank cap. So it should be referred to as a '74-'79. |

"Who? Who?" "Who do you think? THE LIBYANS!!!!" "HOLY SHIT!!!" In the commentary for this, Bob Gale translates kind of what the Libyans are saying, When the machine gun jams, The first Libyan says, "Damn Soviet Gun!!" & when the second Libyan can't seem to get the VW Bus restarted, He exclaims, "Damn German Car!!!" |

This van also might be a 1972. The cool thing about these vans are you could use them as a camper or a road trip van but best of all the van gets 25 to 36 mpg. -- Last edit: 2012-08-21 04:25:35 |

No. It's definitely 1973+ |

This is afaik MY1975+ by the door handle - @Ermel, the fuel filler door was replaced MY1974 but the door handle was changed MY1975. |

at the time of the movie the US had a dispute with Gaddafy of Libya and Iran's Ayatollah as showcased in the movies !! now Gaddafy is dead and it looks like the time for Ayatollah is also coming ... ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2012-08-21 21:24:49 |

I remember when I watched this movie on an Arabic channel called MBC 2 (Middle East Broadcasting Center), they cut out the part when Doc mentions the Libyans. |

This one is 1971 model year only Volkswagen Camper/Campmobile Westfalia due to flat hubcaps, but still carry old taillights. -- Last edit: 2013-07-22 00:02:21 |

I know!! Ain't that awesome? I have both a '68 Westfaia Campmobile and a '78 Champagne Edition Campmobile, Just came back to Oregon from a cross-country road trip to Lubec, Maine in the '78, Got between 36-29 mpg the whole time!! By the way, This is DEFINITELY a '73-'79 Bus, 1972 was the last year for the wraparound front bumper with integral steps and the low mount front turn signals, My friend Amy and her family had a '72 Campmobile, And it had the 1968 vintage front end. |

I don't think this vehicle is four star worthy. It is only seen twice in the movie. |
◊ 2022-03-22 02:52 |
3 stars the van was only used in the car chase not during the whole movie |
◊ 2022-11-21 11:19 |
To be honest, i don't understand how these Libyan terrorists entered the USA carrying a AK-47 and RPG in a van. |
◊ 2022-11-21 11:47 |
I'd say 3-stars too. Even if it (or rather the passengers) was responsible for sending Marty back to 1955, I'm pretty sure Biff's Ford and 1955!Doc's Packard had more screentime... -- Last edit: 2022-11-21 11:48:42 |
