Quoted in many articles specifically as a 1998 model. |

Nice and by the way I love that fact that this show looks like that it takes place in the year 2001 or 2002 according to a video shown in the court room scene in the first episode but this car still somehow looks like it is in worse shape then the Dude's car -- Last edit: 2015-03-04 09:44:43 |

They always make it look too distressed, a bit unrealistic. With exploding engine and trouble starting when this Suzuki was reportedly extremely reliable. It's a comedy but people underestimate the injustice in that. |

You're right, how can anyone be able to beat the hell out of a car to that condition in such a short time? |

So between this and the Aztek, I prefer this one. I feel it will be much more memorable. |

The story is set in 2002 and the car is from 1998, makes you wonder what kind of punishment this thing went through to end up like that in just four years. -- Last edit: 2016-02-24 17:34:30 |

You are obviously too young to remember Japanese cars of the late sixties and the seventies. Showroom to scrapyard in four years was about average, mostly with the mechanicals in perfect working order, but no body panels unrotted. I had a 1978 Datsun 180B estate that you could see the tin worms chomping through day by day. |

Argh! I hate when people leave just one wheel trim rather than removing them all at once. |

Was the Esteem sedan genuinely available in yellow in the USA, or is this a repaint for entertainment purposes ? |
◊ 2017-07-04 02:40 |
I read an online article that said the car wrangler had a surprisingly hard time finding 1980s and 1990s "beater" vehicles because of the Obama administration's "Cash for Clunkers" program, which resulted in a lot of cars from that era being taken off the road and destroyed. |

They called this the 'Esteem' because they knew anyone who bought one wouldn't have any. |
◊ 2017-11-21 04:08 |
their original name sounds like the french word used to describe a baby whale... |
◊ 2017-11-21 04:31 |
Can not confirm the first part but this is a repaint because they purchased four Esteem for the series that must look identical. Including rust forming on unusual places like plastic bumpers. |
◊ 2017-11-21 04:41 |
I'm fairly certain that yellow was not an original color in the US |

Seems like they used a different Esteem for ep. 5.08, as it previously didn't have the black trim above the door handles. |

@chicomarx I recall a 1972 movie called 'The Night Stalker' where the protagonist drives a pretty beat up 68 Camaro convertible. The car would have been 4 to 5 years old. |
